Meet Elly... yes she is a black dog and yes you can take their pictures too.

Meet Elly, diva fantastico and my sidekick at Blinking Cow Photography. Elly is a one year old Jack Russel/Toy Poodle cross and lives every moment to the fullest. She is my inspiration everyday, even the cloudy ones.

Elly is also the example I use to the one comment I hear the most...."you can't take pictures of a black dog..." Well I would like to introduce you to Exhibit A.

Just because your animal is a dark colour does not mean that they cannot have striking, beautiful photos taken of them. It is possible. Here are some tips; use the light to your advantage, try lowering your shutter speed and if all else fails hire a pro.

On that note, there are more black dogs and cats available for adoption then any other color and they usually take the longest to get adopted. Whether it be the myths and legends of old or that people just look them over, they are just as beautiful and have something truly special to give.

Here are a few of the cutie pie adoptables I have met this year that still need homes. When making your decision please consider what will be the perfect pet for your family and not base your decision on colour, you may be missing out on something super special.
